I hope all of you have a fun time tonight. Hopefully, all of you ghost hunters, have obtained the proper permission before going onto someone else's property. I don't want any of you to get arrested, hurt or shot.

Right now I'm downloading a backup of the entire website. After midnight I will make a text backup of all posts to the blog, then Saturday, or Sunday night, I will begin the rebuild of the site on the new server.

There will be the blog of course, very possibly with a new look, and then of course there will be the popular name generators. Everything else will be left behind, and new things will be added when and if needed. Think of it as a reorganization or restructuring of the website. It will remain a website where you can feel safe in telling your story.

Description: The skirrid Inn is the oldest Public house within the borders of the Principality of Wales and among the foremost claimants to the title of the oldest Public House in Great Britain.

The main rivals for the title of the Oldest Inn in Great Britain are Nottingham's "Trip to Jerusalem" ( 1070), the "Fighting Cocks" at St. Albans (11th century structure on an 8th century site), the "Godbegot" at Winchester (1002). The "Bingley Arms", Bardsay near Leeds is recorded as the Priests Inn (AD 905), while "Ye Old Ferry Boat Inn" at Holywell Cambridgeshire claims an origin as early as AD 560.

Fifty years after the Norman Conquest of Britain, two men stood trial before a court assembled in the main room of a new alehouse on a dusty road below the Skirrid Mountain. The alehouse was called "Millbrook" and the men were brothers, James and John Crowther.

James was sentenced to nine months for robberies with violence and John ended his days swinging from an inn beam - his crime? - Sheep stealing. Thus in 1110 is first recorded the existence of the inn known for centuries as "The Skirrid".

The Devil rode abroad in these early days of ignorance and as the night wins howled in the black night, inside the walls of the Inn, the Innkeeper solemnly poured out a pot of "Devils Brew" for His Satanic majesty - and placed it upon the shelf above the fireplace hence "to sip with the Devil" The Innkeeper may have also left a jug of "pwcca" on the Skirrid doorstep when the last of his customers disappeared into the night, to appease the evil or mischievous spirits of the darkness.

Shakespeare is thought to have got his idea for Puck of Mid Summer Nights Dream from "y pwcca". The mists of time shroud the early centuries of the Inns existence, but occasionally out of the pages of history steps a legend like Owain Glyndwr (1359 - 1416), who is said to have rallied his troops in the cobbled forecourt of the Skirrid before climbing onto the Mounting Stone and riding at their head in the march on Pontrilas.

Who was Jennie Wade?

Mary Virginia Wade, or better known as Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed during the American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1863 while baking bread for Union soldiers in the now famous tourist destination, the Jennie Wade House.

She was struck by a single bullet that traveled through two wooden doors killing her instantly. Jennie Wade was 20 years old. The house looks very much the same as it did over 140 years ago.

Jennie was born Mary Virginia Wade on May 21, 1843 in a little town named Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Jennie Wade's birthplace was in a another house located on Baltimore Street. Her nickname "Ginnie" most likely came from her middle name Virginia.

The Jennie Wade house, originally the McClellan home, lived through the Battle of Gettysburg and witnessed the tragic death of Gettysburg civilian Jennie Wade, as she was preparing bread for the Union soldiers.

This brick house was not a good spot to be in during the fighting as it was between both armies and commonly referred to as "No Man's Land". Northern soldiers were setting up defenses South of town while Confederate forces were occupying the North side of town.

As both armies fired on each other, the Jennie Wade home was struck repeatedly and riddled with bullets. The north side received most of the damage as it faced the Confederate position and today is marked with over 150 bullet holes.

Also causing damage to the Jenny Wade house was a Confederate 10-pounder "Parrot" artillery shell. The shell hit and entered the Jennie wade house going through and causing damage to the 2nd floor wall that separated the two dwellings.

Fortunately, the Civil War projectile did not explode, and remained lodged in the house for many years after the war until it was removed. Evidence of this direct hit can still be seen today while taking the tour of the Jenny Wade house.

The house is now a museum and contains a Gift Shop in the rear.

Location: Devenger Road, South Carolina

Message: I had to drop my husband off at work at 4am this morning. Last night I'd been reading about haunted places and was surprised to see Devenger Rd. listed on a few sites. I live only about 2 miles from there so I thought I'd check it out on my way home.

I drove the entire length of Devenger and there is only one bridge on that road so you were at the right place, Will.

It was pitch black on that part of the road at about 4:15am when I got there, no lights except for my own headlights. Once I realized I'd found the bridge in question I turned around and stopped right on the "hump" of the bridge. I turned off my headlights but left my parking lights on. I left the car running and put it in neutral.

My car rolled off the bridge immediately and at a good clip too, about as fast as someone pushing it at a run. I left the bridge, turned around and repeated the same steps on the other lane of the bridge going the opposite direction. Same results. My car did not roll in the same direction both times, though.

I thought that was odd since if it was because of the slope of the bridge, you'd think the car would roll the same way both times no matter what side of the bridge you were on.

I also noticed a very faint, shimmery white light reflected off the dash panel when my car was rolling off the bridge. There were NO lights visible from the road at all. There was no other source of light other than my parking lights, which are amber not white.

My dash lights are kept turned at the lowest setting too, and I could see the white light on the clear cover of the panel, over the dim blue gauge lights. It had to have come from outside the car. My windows were down and there was absolute silence on the bridge, except for the sound of my (very quiet) car.

I didn't have my camera with me and I was going to go back there today and take some pics of the bridge in the daylight but I found that Google maps has a street view of Devenger Rd. Put in the address "1878 Devenger Road Taylors, SC 29687" and the street view link puts you smack in the middle of the bridge.

There is one house I noticed in the background when I looked at the street view but I could not see it in the dark this morning and I saw no lights over there then either.

Could this haunting story be true? Maybe. My trip out there didn't disappoint, but I can't say I am sure there is something supernatural at that bridge. I can't find anything online about any car crash on Devenger Rd. in which two children and their mother were killed but that doesn't mean it never happened.

Anyway, that's my experience on this haunted road.
